Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.2 Through their faith, the people in days of old earned a good reputation.
3 By faith we understand that the entire universe was formed at God’s command, that what we now see did not come from anything that can be seen.
4 It was by faith that Abel brought a more acceptable offering to God than Cain did. Abel’s offering gave evidence that he was a righteous man, and God showed his approval of his gifts. Although Abel is long dead, he still speaks to us by his example of faith.
5 It was by faith that Enoch was taken up to heaven without dying—“he disappeared, because God took him.”For before he was taken up, he was known as a person who pleased God.6 And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.
On Sunday we were reminded that we don’t need everything sorted, all the i’s dotted and t’s crossed before we say we’ll do something for God.
Let me ask you… when was the last time you had to exercise faith?
I mean a, step out of the boat faith, not knowing what is coming next but certain that God has led you to something, kind of faith.
I wonder if we’ve lost a bit of that audacious faith as our culture has determined that we need to understand and have everything planned out before we commit to it.
Faith is a matter of surrender, surrendering our life to the will of God
Surrendering your life means:
- Following God’s lead without knowing where he’s sending you;
- Waiting for God’s timing without knowing when it will come;
- Expecting a miracle without knowing how God will provide;
- Trusting God’s purpose without understanding the circumstances.
You know you’re surrendered to God when you rely on God to work things out instead of trying to plan everything, force your agenda, and control the situation. You let go and let God work. You don’t have to always be in charge. Instead of trying harder, you trust more.
What are you holding on to tightly, trying to control, plan and force your agenda in? Give it afresh to God today, surrender your will to His.
Where is God asking you to exercise faith?
