Have you ever met anyone famous? Was it a chance encounter or did you have time to prepare for the meeting. My boyhood hero was the England Goalkeeper Peter Shilton which is why I support Stoke City as a football team. A few years ago we were sitting on a beach in Cornwall and he sat next to us – It was unexpected and I was so happy! I wanted to start a football match on the beach and tell everyone that I would have Shilton in goal.
An Encounter is a meeting, especially one that is unplanned or unexpected
Worship is an encounter with God – it is unexpected!
Listen to King David in the Psalms
Psalm 8 v 1 – 4
Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory
in the heavens.
Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.
When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?
God wants to meet with us in our worship. It is unexpected and not deserved but through His grace He wants to meet with you and show you His goodness. In worship, we get to know who God is and discover our identity in Him.
God is mindful of you and cares for you – He wants to meet with you in your worship of Him this week.
