Jesus talks about His return to this world in Matthew 25. Some of the principles He outlines here we can apply to meeting Him in worship.
Matthew 25 v 1 – 13
“At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.
“At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’
“Then all the virgins woke up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil; our lamps are going out.’
“‘No,’ they replied, ‘there may not be enough for both us and you. Instead, go to those who sell oil and buy some for yourselves.’
“But while they were on their way to buy the oil, the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut.
“Later the others also came. ‘Lord, Lord,’ they said, ‘open the door for us!’
“But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I don’t know you.’
“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.
Jesus tells this parable in the context of the end times before His return. We can use it as a wake up call to encounter God in Worship. The presence of God is here; are we ready to meet Him in worship?
This parable is to the church and there are three groups described.
- The five foolish virgins
- The five wise virgins
- Those that woke them up
The wise virgins had a lamp and oil and they had enough to meet the Bridegroom. The foolish virgins had lamps but their oil had run out. When the Word of God talks about the lamp it is talking about the Word of God. When the Bible is talking about oil it is talking about the Holy Spirit.
When we meet with God in worship our worship is Bible based. When we spend time with God each day our Bibles should be open and it is good to use scripture in worship. There are some great Hymns and Worship Songs that are scripture put to music. When we worship God our worship is Spirit filled and involves our emotion. The Bible tells us to be filled with the Holy Spirit every day. Lets not be like the Foolish Virgins who were out of oil; lets make sure we are full of the Holy Spirit on every occasion. Even better than this lets be like the people that sounded the wake up call and encourage one another to be prepared and worship Jesus.
When we meet with Him in worship it is like a wedding banquet. He has brought me to His Banqueting Table and His banner over me is love.
Have a great day!
