Leviticus 19:9-18

17 “You shall not hate your brother in your heart, but you shall reason frankly with your neighbour, lest you incur sin because of him. 18 You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbour as yourself: I am the Lord.

  • Do not hate your brother (Lev. 19:17).
  • Do not seek revenge or hold a grudge but extend forgiveness (Lev. 19:18).

We move on to what loving your neighbour means, not just in terms of how you live with generosity, how you show integrity or how justice exhibits in your life. Now we’re onto matters of the heart.

Love and forgiveness. R.T Kendall writes in his book Total forgiveness:

Love is a choice. Total forgiveness is a choice. It is not a feeling-at least at first-but is rather an act of the will. It is the choice to tear up the record of wrongs we have been keeping.

It is my experience and belief that one of the most powerful ways of loving those next to you is to walk in forgiveness.

QUESTION

Do you extend love to your neighbour, do you hold a grudge or freely and quickly forgive?

Do you have someone next to you, whether a neighbour, a friend, a family member, a colleague, who you need to forgive?
