This morning, we continue our devotions as we look at how discipleship is linked to surrender.
A wise steward is one element of being a faithful disciple.
Here is a good description of what a disciple should be:
Matthew 6 v 33
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
A faithful disciple is one who seeks God’s will above everything else in all that he does. This includes how he or she uses their possessions, money and wealth.
In Luke 18 Jesus asks someone to become his 13th Disciple and that person, who was a rich young man, asks what he needs to do. What an invitation!
Jesus’ answer is that he needs to sell everything and give to the poor. A faithful disciple relinquishes his claims on what he owns and allows God to decide what to do with it. For us it will probably not mean giving away all that we have but are willing to give God control of our money?
Tomorrow we will look at what we do with money – spend it, save it or give it away
