|James 1:27New Living Translation (NLT)
27 Pure and genuine religion in the sight of God the Father means caring for orphans and widows in their distress and refusing to let the world corrupt you.
When I read this passage from James I’m always interested by the word religion. It’s a word that only appears 4 times in the new testament and it’s the Greek word: thrēskeia
It refers to worshipping and religious ceremonies and religious disciplines. In other words our discipline of worship should be active. Our lives should be full of care for the orphan and the widow. It’s quite a challenge.
The other part of pure and genuine religion is not being corrupted by the world. As we are in the world, it’s very easy for our thinking, beliefs and actions to be influenced by the world
How does you do in these two areas?
Do you let the world corrupt you?
What could refusing to let the world corrupt you mean for you?
