Pay careful attention, then, to how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, 16redeeming the time, because the days are evil. 17Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. 18Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to reckless indiscretion. Instead, be filled with the Spirit.

But, Paul’s kicker is this. Instead be filled with the Spirit
Whatever our vice, whatever our addiction, whatever our foolishness and tendency to un-wise living. There is a continuing remedy, provided for by the perfect wisdom of God. That we are to be filled, not with the things of the world, but with God himself in the person of the Holy Spirit.
It is the Spirit of God by which our minds our enlightened to the wisdom of God, it is by the Spirit of God by which we can walk daily in step with the will of God, which is a path towards godliness, fruit and freedom.
If you have accepted Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, then you are fully covered by his blood. Free from sin. The cross frees us. Jesus came to free us from sin but also from the chains and addictions that hold us.
The filling of the Holy Spirit is not described in scripture as a one of event, but a continual filling of the Spirit every single day. The presence of our God in our lives which guides, leads, heals, redeems. Today, again ask for that fresh indwelling of the Holy Spirit in your life
