The Fourth thing God might want to say to us is – “Don’t Lose Your First Love”

Revelation 2 v 1 – 7

To the angel of the church in Ephesus write:
These are the words of him who holds the seven stars in his right hand and walks among the seven golden lampstands. I know your deeds, your hard work and your perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate wicked people, that you have tested those who claim to be apostles but are not, and have found them false.
You have persevered and have endured hardships for my name, and have not grown weary.
Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place. But you have this in your favor: You hate the practices of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.
Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who is victorious, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.

This is the church that was so passionate about Jesus that when they became Christians they burned all the things that reminded them of false Gods. Here, Jesus commends them for their deeds but questions their love for him – they have lost their first love.

As you spend time in God’s presence this week allow the Holy Spirit to rekindle that first love. The Holy Spirit will always point us to Christ. What are some of the things you did when you first got saved? This passage challenges us to do them again to rekindle the passion. Ask the question, what does that mean for you?

For me it would be spending more time reading His Word, the Bible. Not just to research a preach for a Sunday but simply to get to know Jesus more and fall in love with Him again. It would also mean spending time listening to Him and not presenting Him with list of requests.

Have a great day as you light the fires again.
