6 And while they were there, the time came for her baby to be born. 7 She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them.
Matthew 2:1 Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the reign of King Herod.
The Messiah is born! But the Bible says there was no room for Him. No room in the inn, or perhaps more accurately, in the guest room of a relatives house. No lodging available for this heavily pregnant girl and her soon to be husband.
We’ve noted that really only Matthew and Luke expand on the birth of Jesus, but the Apostle John does point to it in John 1
9 The one who is the true light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.
10 He came into the very world he created, but the world didn’t recognize him.11 He came to his own people, and even they rejected him. 12 But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God.13 They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.
The Bible says that there was no physical room for Jesus, but it also explains that for many there was no spiritual room for Jesus. He came into the world, born of Mary, but the world didn’t recognise him. That’s the world he was born into, that’s the world we live in today. He was born a Jew, he came for the people of Israel, yet they rejected Him.
To all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God!!
Let’s celebrate this Christmas. Let’s celebrate Jesus! Because of Him we can be called children of God
