Welcome to 2018! This is due to be in your inbox at 6am so I’m sure you’re all wide awake and ready to start this new year in God’s word!!
Yesterday in church I spoke about cups. We ended by sharing communion where we gather to remember and celebrate the death and resurrection of Jesus as we share the bread and drink from the cup.
We started by thinking about the cup of victory. In 2017 I was part of a football team that once a cup. Sawyers FC were crowned 6-aside champions of the Brentwood Power Play league! A feat once unattainable was realised! As winners we received a cup as a sign of victory.
The Bible talks a lot about victory and today I just want to take a few scriptures to remind us that in God we are victorious.
Exodus 15:2 The Lord is my strength and my song; he has given me victory. This is my God, and I will praise him— my father’s God, and I will exalt him!
Do you declare this year that the Lord is your strength and your song? Do you commit to praising and exalting Him?
Romans 8:37 No, despite all these things, overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.
Despite whatever might be happening in your life (in the preceeding verses, Paul refers to trouble, calamity, persecution, hunger, destitution, or danger), do you believe overwhelming victory is yours through Jesus?
1 Corinthians 15:57 But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ.
As we start 2018 do you believe that God has given you victory over sin and death through Jesus?
Our victory is not based upon how well we did, how much we sinned, how we lived, our performance, no our status as victorious is based on what God did. Overwhelming victory is ours because of the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ. That is why we are victorious.
Paul goes on to finish 1 Corinthians with a closing remark which I would like to pray over you at the beginning of this year:
58 So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.
May your know the victory of Christ in and through your life this year
