39 But some of the Pharisees among the crowd said, “Teacher, rebuke your followers for saying things like that!”
40 He replied, “If they kept quiet, the stones along the road would burst into cheers!”
The Pharisees play an important part in this final week of Jesus’ life.
In fact they think their plans are successful when they eventually get rid of Jesus. Isn’t it a great illustration of how man can mean something for harm, yet God uses it for good.
I think the Pharisees would be devastated if they knew the cross the condemned Jesus to was the very means of forgiveness and freedom for millions of people around the world.
It’s a reality of life that there will always be mockers, Pharisees, people who resist, often those in power who don’t want to lose it.
But there is a great truth here: No work of man can stop the work of God. Everything in all of creation is under God’s rule. Jesus’ response to the Pharisees, is you can try and silence their worship, but if you do creation continues to sing and worship: the stones along the road would burst into cheers!
So be encouraged today, keep going, keep striving for the things of God. Keep worshipping, keep putting Jesus first in your life and know that even the most negative voices God can transform for good
