This week our devotions come from Luke 21. From tomorrow through to the end of the week will be looking at something called the Olivet Discourse but before we get to that our reading today is from Luke 21 v 1 – 4
As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. “Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”
We often look at outward appearances but God always sees the heart. He sees not so much how much we give but how much we have left for ourselves – Jesus looks for the sacrificial giving of our time, energy, finance and talents.
In the words of the great hymn, “All to Jesus I surrender all to him I freely give”. This was the widow’s testimony and it brought her recognition from her Lord and Saviour.
Does your giving to God model the example of the widow?
