Our God as Father Daily devotions
Psalm 103 7-14
7The Lord is compassionate and merciful,
slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. 9 He will not constantly accuse us,
nor remain angry forever. 10 He does not punish us for all our sins;
he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve. 11 For his unfailing love toward those who fear him
is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth. 12 He has removed our sins as far from us
as the east is from the west. 13 The Lord is like a father to his children,
tender and compassionate to those who fear him. 14 For he knows how weak we are;
he remembers we are only dust
I wish that in my short time of parenting that this would be a the word for word description that my kids would tell you about me. Although I try and so often fail to be tender and compassionate, I am not God and do not always have the patience I need nor the right frame of mind in the moment to deal with the situation in the best way possible. My fuse is not unlimited and if you turn up at certain times in the Carman household you may hear screaming kids, a raised voice and a frustrated Mum. When this is the case, my wife helps me see my own imperfection and overactions and I have on many occasions apologized to my kids for not dealing with things gently or compassionately. I must choose to be humble enough to ask for their forgiveness of my 3 and 1 and a ½ year old.
Our Dad in heaven is kind and compassionate all the time. He treats us well and better than we deserve. He does not get wound up and act out of impulse or anger or get annoyed about the sticky banana handprints on the freshly painted walls! He forgives, gently disciplines and helps us be better.
Today reflect on how your earthly Dad reflected this in your life and then compare that to what your Heavenly Dad is like according to this verse.
