10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armour of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled round your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
This well known chapter continues from the previous chapter speaking about relationships. It is always a challenge to be loving and respectful to others.
These verses speak of the armour – the protection for a Christian. It says put on the FULL armour (this armour becomes stronger as we grow in him and put it on) so we can STAND against the devil’s schemes. We are in a fight, a battle, not against people but against evil powers and forces. Though Christ defeated these powers on the cross we still experience attacks and we need to STAND (hold our ground) in his strength and victory.
- Belt of TRUTH… truth about HIM and his WORDS
- Breastplate of RIGHTEOUSNESS… HIS that he bestows on us
- Shoes… the GOSPEL OF PEACE. Proclaim RECONCILIATION with God
- Shield of FAITH… the FAITH HE gives us, we activate
- Helmet of SALVATION… a gift from HIM with assurance
- Sword of the Spirit… WORD OF GOD
- Pray… in the Spirit at all times
With this we can STAND against the accusations of the evil one and the challenges of life. Resist him (the devil) standing firm in the faith (1 Peter 5:9). HIS STRENGTH IN OUR WEAKNESS
We have looked at SIT (rest), WALK (live right) and STAND (in His strength). Though there is a progression, we have to embrace all three continually.
Do keep reading, believing, acting, growing…receive blessings from our awesome God.
