About us / What we believe

what_we_believe

At Sawyers, we believe that Christianity is much more than religion and rituals; it's an incredible, true story and the opportunity to encounter God in a life-changing way. The Christian faith is an ancient-future faith in that whilst our beliefs are rooted in years of Biblical history, they are still totally relevant to contemporary life and have clear implications for our future as individuals and the world as a whole.

We would love to help you discover the Christian faith
and explore it's impact on your own life. Below is a summary of the basic beliefs that we hold as Christians – talk to us if you’d like to find answers to your questions.

  • We believe that God is real and that He is the Creator and Sustainer of everything that exists. Nothing in the world exists that God has not created and nothing can continue to live or exist unless He allows it.
  • We believe in one God who shows Himself in three persons: God the Father in heaven, Jesus the Son who lived and died on earth and now is in heaven, and the Holy Spirit who is active in the world and living within all Christians.
  • We believe that humans had the opportunity to live in a perfect world in a perfect relationship with God but have been rebelling against God's plan since the beginning of time. We believe that all of us are guilty of rebellion against God, or 'sin' in big and small ways.
  • We believe that God came to earth in the form of a human as Jesus Christ and lived the same kind of life that we all do, was tempted in every way, but never sinned. We believe that Jesus was a teacher, a healer, a miracle maker and that He was both 100% God and 100% man.
  • We believe that God intended Jesus' death on a cross as a sacrifice that paid the price of our sin. When he rose from the dead Jesus showed that He is more powerful than sin, death, or hell.
  • We believe that because of God's saving power through Jesus, we can be forgiven of all our sins and we can enjoy a restored relationship with God here on earth through prayer and worship.
  • We believe that God is still active in the world today. He speaks to us through the Bible and through visions, dreams and prophecy. He answers prayer (though not always in the way we expect), He heals people physically and emotionally. He provides to us all that we need, He empowers us to live lives of love and service, to relate better with each other, to achieve great things with our lives.
  • We believe that at the end of this life, Christians will join God in Heaven, a perfect place where we will worship God and enjoy Him for eternity.
