John Newman

John, with cockney roots, supporting West Ham and all things sporty, came to know the Lord when he was 15 after being invited to make up the numbers at the local park for a game of football. Married to Hazel with two adult daughters, the intervening years included a significant period within the banking world, overseeing the communications office that processed £millions worldwide. Following God's call in 1990, John and Hazel joined the Team at Pilgrims Hall, Christian Resource Centre, and for the next 13 years Johns duties ranged from horticulture, shepherding, maintenance, administration, finance (managing and preparing accounts for Audit) and at times hosting and serving at evening dinners! It was in 1991 that the family joined Sawyers.

God's call then moved John and the family to where he is now - serving at Sawyers Church as Site & Facilities Manager, to ensure the building is ready for each event.  In addition John also works as a job coach and treasurer for Frontline - a partnership ministry of Sawyers supporting people with complex and profound learning disabilities to live full and productive lives. John still enjoys sport and plays table tennis. He can also be seen tuned in to Test Match Special.
