Richard, born in Leytonstone in 1942, into a Christian family, came to faith at the age of 8, married to Gill and emigrated to Canada in 1966, returned to the UK in 1971 to become father to Nick (1971) and Rachel (1974) and joined Sawyers Church. He served in the children and young peoples work before becoming an Elder in 1987. He is a Trustee of both Sawyers' Trusts and the Brentwood Schools Christian Worker Trust.
With Gill and other volunteers he has a deep interest in care homes for those with various disabilities in Poland and Bulgaria, visiting yearly. Apart from extensive involvement in the life of Sawyers, he spends some time in a local infants school, helping children with special needs in Maths and English, traveling abroad, collecting wine and especially playing the doting Grandfather to his granddaughters Hannah and Imogen.
